Submissions

Work submitted after June 15, 2009 will be considered for Issue 5.
Guidelines: All editorial decisions are based on the content and quality of the work submitted.
Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but please tell us as soon as your work is accepted elsewhere. Hospital Drive reports within 3 to 4 months. Hospital Drive reserves the right to discard without notice those submissions that do not follow our guidelines.

- All works must be submitted by e-mail, accompanied by basic contact information, including any healthcare affiliation, and the titles of each piece. Submissions are open to anyone, but preference is given to those involved in providing, teaching, studying, or researching patient care.

Nowhere on your submitted work should your name or contact information appear. Only the title of the work is to be included.
- Please attach your written piece as a Word document, saved as an .RTF file.
- Please attach visual art as a .jpg files. Hospital Drive may request a large-file version of works selected for publication.
- Please attach all files to a single email but send separate emails for different genres.
For example, if you are sending four poems, attach them as a single document to the one email. Put "Poetry submission" in the email subject line. If you are also sending a short story, attach your short story to a separate email and put "Fiction submission" in the subject line.
Likewise, send your essay, or art with "Nonfiction submission" and
"Art submission," respectively.
- Submission Formatting, by genre:

- POETRY
• Submit Poetry submissions no more than five poems and the entire
submission should be no longer than ten pages. Poems should be in 12 point, Times Roman type, and may be single-spaced.
- PROSE
• All prose submissions should be in 12 point, Times Roman type, double-spaced, on 8 1/12 x 11 inch paper, with one inch margins. Pages should be numbered.
We are particularly interested in short pieces with high impact.
• Submit a short story of no more than 2,500 words.
• Submit an essay of no more than 2,500 words.
- VISUAL ART
• Submit no more than 8 pieces of art in .jpg format. You may submit multiple .jpg files at a time or submit them singly. Please do not exceed 1MB in a single email when submitting multiple .jpg files. Please note: Hospital Drive may request a large-file version of works selected for publication.

RIGHTS: By submitting your work, you affirm that you are the SOLE author or artist, and maintain ALL rights for your work. If your work is accepted for publication, Hospital Drive retains an exclusive use of Electronic Rights (the right to publish and reproduce your material
online) for a period of time equal to one publication cycle starting from the date the work first appears on Hospital Drive's Web site.
Hospital Drive also retains Electronic Archival Rights (the entire issue in which your work appears will be stored in electronic form for public inspection after original publication), and the non-exclusive right to reprint the piece once in print or electronic format (CD), should we produce a print or CD anthology in the future. We retain the right to re-size the images selected to fit design format.
You will also retain copyright and the right to be acknowledged as the moral author or artist of your work. While available as the current issue online, no original work may appear in another publication, either electronic or print, except when identified as part of Hospital Drive and with permission from Hospital Drive. As a courtesy we ask that authors acknowledge their publication in Hospital Drive in any subsequent publication.
